Amanda Burns joined Caffarelli & Associates Ltd. in January 2023. She focuses her practice on employment law and represents individual employees and class actions in state and federal court, before administrative agencies, and through private negotiations.
Before joining the firm, Amanda clerked for the Honorable Eve Reilly in the Chancery Division of the Circuit Court of Cook County, where she worked extensively on employment-related matters, including cases involving the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act, employment contracts, non-compete agreements, and emergency labor disputes. She also previously worked at a plaintiff-side employment law firm, where she served as lead associate in a sex discrimination case involving over 550 plaintiffs and assisted with court-appointed duties under the federal Shakman Decree.
Amanda earned her J.D., cum laude, from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2019, where she served as Lead Articles Editor of the Loyola University Chicago Law Journal and worked as an academic tutor. During law school, Amanda gained additional experience through clerkships with the Illinois Office of the Attorney General, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Western District of New York, and the Chicago Board of Education’s Labor and Employee Discipline Department.
She was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 2019 and is also admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Amanda is a member of the National Employment Lawyers Association–Illinois. She also holds a Master of Arts in Cultural and Educational Policy Studies from Loyola University Chicago’s Graduate School of Education and earned her undergraduate degree with honors from Xavier University.
Originally from Buffalo, New York, Amanda now resides in Chicago with her husband, daughter, and cats.
